So, I've got the wagon, right? It's awesome and I love it, and it's not going anywhere.

I think that in order to reach a point where I can seal the deal on the SL, I need to do co-ownership for a while, in order to be able to actually afford it. I should be able to talk my boss into this, but the question is, has anyone here ever done this before?

My boss owns the car, and has for a number of years. I'm thinking if I can give him his asking price for it, but go into a co-ownership thing, I can slowly work into being the sole owner of the vehicle.

My alternative is to buy it, register it, and have him continue to insure it for the time being. As far as I know, perfectly acceptable and legal to do so. He pays peanuts for it, but the same will not be the case for me.

I want this car bad, and do not want to lose it, but the last time I mentioned it to an insurance company, I gave them the VIN, and the rep had to google the model to figure it out. They don't even touch it.

I hate being young sometimes, but I don't really want to get old either. Life's a bitch.

Here's a toy for your time

Specialty or Classic insurance. Call Hagerty or Grundy. Granted you're not supposed to use it as a daily driver in that case but still, it's insurance coverage.

I'm not looking for DD coverage for it. It's mostly a weekend car, or if I have an emergency with it. I've DD'd the thing for a month, and I swear, my wallet still burns from $100+ in gas each week.

Then a classic insurance would be the best way to go. Cheap, too (usually). BUT you can't have more than one mark on your record in the past 3-5 years, so only one accident or one ticket.

Yeah, I'll give them a call and see what happens over the next couple days. Worst case I can fudge the registration long enough to put it on a more regular policy myself. Whatever makes it work.
